Iginiit ni House Speaker Faustino Dy III na hindi lamang ang pagpasa ng mga batas ang pamantayan para sa Kamara de Representantes kundi maging ang mabuting paglilingkod at pagpapanumbalik ng tiwala ng mga mamamayan sa institusyon.
Ginawa ni Dy ang pahayag kasabay ng kanyang panawagan para sa “moral recovery” sa isang Mass of the Holy Spirit na ginanap sa Northwing lobby ng Main Building noong Lunes.
“I have said this before, and I will continue to say it: a truly Bagong Kongreso must begin with moral recovery. Our standard cannot simply be how many laws we pass, but whether we become better public servants and restore our people’s faith in this institution,” sabi ni Dy.
“Being a legislator is not simply about knowing how to make laws. It is about knowing what is right and having the courage to do it—choosing integrity over convenience and the common good over personal interest,” dagdag pa nito.
Dumalo sa misa ang Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines na si Most Rev. Charles John Brown, D.D.; Bishop Emeritus of Novaliches na si Most Rev. Teodoro C. Bacani Jr., D.D.; mga miyembro ng House; at mga pari na nakipagconcelebrate, kabilang ang mga klerigo mula sa Diocese of Ilagan.
Sinabi ni Dy na nagsisilbing paalala ang presensya ng mga lider ng Simbahan na may mga responsibilidad ang serbisyo publiko na higit sa mga usaping pampulitika, lalo na kapag nahaharap ang mga mambabatas sa mahihirap na pagpapasya.
“There will be times when the right decision will not be the easiest decision. There will be moments of noise, disagreement, and uncertainty. In those cases, we will need something greater than political judgment. We will need our conscience. We will need collective courage. And we will need prayers,” sabi ng lider ng Kamara.
Ayon kay Dy, may mga epekto sa milyon-milyong Pilipino ang mga desisyong ginagawa ng Kongreso, kaya mahalaga ang integridad at pananagutan sa gawain ng mga mambabatas.
“Because behind every law we pass, every budget we approve, and every decision we make will benefit millions of filipinos. We must therefore know how to speak, but also how to listen; how to lead, but also how to serve,” sabi ni Dy.
Sinabi ni Dy na nakasandig ang pananaw ng Bagong Kongreso sa kolektibong responsibilidad at hindi sa pamumuno ng isang indibidwal lamang.
“Because the Bagong Kongreso is not about one Speaker. It is about all of us—working together, guided by a common purpose and a shared responsibility to the Filipino people,” sabi ni Dy.
“And if we stand together with faith in God, faith in one another, and faith in the Filipino people, I believe we can build a Congress worthy of their trust: A Congress that knows how to listen. A Congress that serves. A Congress that does what is right. A Congress that puts the Filipino people first,” dagdag pa nito.
Sinabi ni Dy na mula nang maupo siya bilang Speaker, nakibahagi na ang mga obispo at pari mula sa iba’t ibang diyosesis sa pagdarasal kasama ang mga miyembro at empleyado ng Kamara sa pamamagitan ng Spiritual and Moral Enhancement Program, na aniya’y nagbibigay ng espirituwal na suporta sa gitna ng mga pressure at mahihirap na desisyong kaakibat ng serbisyo publiko.
