Tunay na nakaka-inspire ang kwento kung paano nabuo ang PH women’s wheelchair basketball team na tinatawag na ring Pilipinas Lady Warriors.
Kasalukuyang binubuo pa lang nina Patricia Camille Castro, Cecille Naceno, Kymberlee Dangayo at Jean de los Reyes ang koponan na pinamumunuan ni coach Vernon Perea.
“Unlike the men’s team, we formed this team only a few weeks ago. Our plan really is to showcase the talents and skills of our female players and be recognized,” pahayag ni Perea kasama ang kanyang long-time assistant coach na si Harry Solanoy sa 18th “Usapang Sports” ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) kamakailan sa National Press Club.
“These four women have different inspiring stories to tell and I believe they best represent the character of the team. Sila na din yun magsisilbing tulay para makahikayat kami ng iba pang mga babaeng PWD na makakasama sa national team,” kwento naman ni Perea sa weekly forum na suportado ng Philippine Sports Commission, National Press Club, PAGCOR and HG Guyabano Tea Leaf Drink.
“Actually this is the right time to form the national women’s team, especially with the international federation now pushing for the development of women’s wheelchair basketball.”
Dinitalye rin ng koponan ang kanilang naging karanasan sa pagsali sa second International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Asia Oceania Women’s Development Camp na ginanap sa National Paralympic Training Centre, Suphan Buri, Thailand.
