Kung sina PBA grandslam coach Tim Cone at Ateneo mentor Tab Baldwin ang tatanungin, mas makabubuting dito na lamang maglaro ang promising 16-year old player na si Kai Sotto.
Gumawa ng marka si Sotto sa nagdaang FIBA Asia U-16 Championships sa China nitong Abril at dahil dito ay minamatyagan na siya ng NCAA Division I team Gonzaga University, partikular ng international scout na si Tommy Lloyd.
Sa panayam ng foxsports.ph kay Cone, sinabi nitong maganda ang programa ng Gonzaga ngunit nangangamba para kay Sotto na baka hindi ito mapagtuunan ng pansin sa dami ng magagaling na manlalaro sa naturang unibersidad.
“Gonzaga is one of the best basketball programs in the United States and they are known for their player development. Still, they recruit the best of the best and it may be difficult to get playing time because they are so good. So there are arguments both ways,” ani Cone.
Ganito rin ang sentimyento ni Baldwin. “I think the US college system is very limiting because of the training restrictions imposed on the players by the NCAA rules. For a developing player, like Kai, I think it’s the worst possible move,” ayon kay Baldwin.
