Pacquiao, ‘di tatantanan ang mataas na tobacco tax

Nangako si Senador Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao, na hindi nito titigilan ang pagsusulong ng mataas na buwis sa mga produkto ng tobacco upang protektahan ang taumbayan.

“I will continue to fight for a higher tobacco tax and nothing can stop us from protecting our people especially children. We will never back down because this is about saving the lives of thousands of Filipinos,” saad ni Pacquiao.

Dismayado ang Pambansang Kamao sa pagsisingit ng mababang tobacco tax sa Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) sa kabila ng pagkakabinbin pa sa Senado ng kanilang mga panukala para sa pagpapataw ng mataas na buwis sa sigarilyo.

“Protecting public health against the menace of cigarette smoking is more important than money,” giit ni Pacman.

Nakabinbin pa sa Senado ang Senate Bill 1599 (an act raising the excise tax on tobacco products and amending for the purpose pertinent sections of the national internal revenue code, as amended) para itaas sa P60 ang P30 na tax sa sigarilyo gayundin ang Senate Bill 1605 (an act increasing the excise tax on tobacco products and amending for the purpose section 145 of republic act no. 8424, otherwise known as the national internal revenue code of 1997, as amended by republic act no. 9334 and republic act no. 10351, and for other purposes) na nagsusulong na itaas ang tax sa P90.
