Tiwala ang National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) at si director Martin “Binky” Gaticales na kayang mag-produce ng bansa ng isa pang world-class chess player kagaya ni super GM Wesley So.
“But the whole country, and not just the chess community — should pitch in and help in this effort to find the next Wesley So,” wika ni Gaticales sa pagbisita nito sa 28th “Usapang Sports” ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) na ginanap sa National Press Club nitong Huwebes.
Ayon pa kay Gaticales, director rin ng Philippine Executives Chess Association (PECA), na suporta mula sa public at private sector ang kinakailangan upang makatagpo at ma-develop ang susunod na super GM ng bansa.
“With GM Wesley and some of our top players migrating to the United States, I think it’s about time we set our sights in search for more outstanding young players in the caliber of Wesley,” saad ni Gaticales sa weekly forum na ka-partner ang Philippine Sports Commission, National Press Club, PAGCOR, Community Basketball Association at HG Guyabano Tea Leaf Drinks.
Dahil rito, nagbabalak sina Gaticales at ilan pang chess-loving individuals na mag organisa ng nationwide grassroots development program na layunin na makapag-produce ng “next Wesley So of the Philippines.”
“I think it can be done. Kailangan lang maniwala tayo. Madaming magagaling na mga batang players, na maaaring nating i-develop sa susunod na mga taon,” aniya.
Sisimulan na ni Gaticales, na dating chess player rin, ang programang ito na aprubado ni National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president Cong. Prospero “Butch” Pichay.
“I presented this program to Cong. Pichay and he readily agreed to do it,” wika nito,
“As of now, may mga kinakausap na tayong possible private sponsors which we will tap to fund the tournament. I think it’s just right that we approach people from the private sector at huwag lang tayo basta umasa sa gobyerno.”
