Labor education bill lusot sa Senado

Inaprubahan na sa ikatlo at pinal na pagbasa ang isang panukala na nagmamandato sa lahat ng mga public at private higher education institution (HEI) na isama ang labor education bilang subject sa kanilang general education curriculum.

Dalawamput isang senador ang pumabor para ipasa ang Senate Bill No 1513 o panukalang Labor Education Act.

“At present, the regions that have the highest number of students enrolled in higher education institutions are also the regions where establishments record dismal compliance to labor laws,” pahayag ni Senador Joel Villanueva, chair ng Senate labor committee at sponsor ng panukala.

“Unfortunately, there is no clear core subject in the higher, technical, and vocational education sectors where labor education is comprehensively covered,” diin nito.

Sa ilalim ng panukala, ang mga unibersidad at kolehiyo ay required na isama ang labor education sa general education curriculum bilang elective.

Inaataan din nito ang Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) na isama ang labor education sa kanilang training regulation.

“We are one step closer to an empowered workforce, one where both employer and employee are informed of their respective rights under the law,” ayon kay Villanueva.

“Sa ganitong paraan, mababawasan po natin ang mang-aabuso at maaabuso, dahil alam ng isa’t isa ang karapatan nila bilang negosyante at manggagawa,” saad pa nito.
