GM Antonio sasabak na sa World Seniors

Sabak na si Pinoy Grandmaster Rogelio ‘Joey’ Madrigal Antonio Jr. sa FIDE World Seniors 2019 Chess Championships sa Rin Grand Hotel sa Bucharest, Romania.

Makikipagtagisan ng isip si 19th seed Antonio (elo 2427) kina top seed GM Kiril Georgiev (2582) ng Republic of Macedonia, No. 2 GM Darcy Lima (2540) ng Brazil at third seed GM Zurab Sturua (2540) ng Georgia simula ngayong araw.

Ang ibang tigasing woodpusher na kasali ay sina GM Alexander Shabalov ng United States, GM Mihail Marinat, GM Vladsislav Nevednichy ng Romania, GM Ivan Morovic Fernandez ng Chile, GM Alex Yermolinsky ng United States, GM Semen I. Dvoirys ng Russia at GM Artdashes Minasian Armenia.

Nakopo ni Antonio ang runner-up trophy sa 2017 edition sa Italy.

Si 57-year-old, Antonio na suportado ng National Chess Federation of the Philippines, Philippine Sports Commission sa pamumuno ni chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez at Prage Management Corporation, ay magtatangka na lagpasan ang kanyang runner-up finish sa 27th World Senior Chess Championship na ginanap sa Acqui Terme, Italy.

“I’m ready. It’s a big challenge for me, but I will do my best for flag and country,” sabi ni Antonio na nagtala ng undefeated record 41 wins at tabla sa 4 games sa rare 45 board simultaneous exhibition nitong Sabado na ginanap sa Xavier School sa San Juan City.
