Target ng San Miguel Beer-Alab Pilipinas at ni coach Jimmy Alapag na makuha ang kampeonato sa 2019-2020 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).
“Even with the other teams getting a lot better now, we have a chance. I think our goal every season is always to compete for the championship. That was our goal in our first season, which fortunately we won in 2018. That was our goal in 2019 when we lost. And that remains our goal in the upcoming ABL season,” pahayag ni coach Alapag sa 45th ‘Usapang Sports’ ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) sa National Press Club sa Intramuros, Manila nitong Huwebes .
Excited rin si coach Alapag sa mga top local player na sina Lawrence Domingo, Jason Brickman at Aaron Aban at tatlong import na sina Renaldo Balkman, Adrian Forbes at Khalif Wyatt.
“We’re just about complete. Wyatt, who played in Israel for five years, is arriving tomorrow night. We’ll conintue to work hard,” dagdag pa ni coach Alapag na kilala ring ‘Mighty Mouse’ sa PBA at former Gilas Pilipinas player.
“In our country, it’s easy to find talents, but we also want to find guys with good work ethic who can put us in best position to win. I believe guys have to play and respect the game the right way because we do not just represent ourselves but we represent the whole country,” dagdag pa ni coach Alapag sa weekly forum na handog ng Philippine Sports Commission, National Press Club, PAGCOR at Community Basketball Association.
Naikwento rin ni coach Alapag ang kanyang adjustment mula player hanggang sa maging coach ito.
“Iba ‘yun isip as a coach. As a player, my focus is on what I can do to try to help myself and the team. Parang extension ng coach. But it’s a different perspective. As a coach, you have to stay relaxed. I need to be very calm and collective in my thoughts. I can’t be too excited. But I am thankful to be still connected to the game and be able to share what I know,” bahagi nito.
