“While we welcome the dismissal of the case against Sr. Emma Cupin, MSM, of RMP-Northern Mindanao and other co-petitioners from Karapatan and Gabriela, we are alarmed that they decided to pursue the allegations against Sr. Elen—an 80-year old nun who spent most of her life working with the rural poor as a testament of her love and commitment to Christ,” saad ng RMP sa isang pahayag nitong Disyembre 5.

“It is clear that this perjury case was filed against the petitioners to turn the discussion away from the real issue and as reprisal to stop us from speaking about widespread human rights violations. Ultimately, we know that this is part of the efforts to discredit and vilify our organization and to impede our missionary work and advocacy for land, justice and peace,” lahad pa nito.

Hinikayat din ng grupo ang Office of the Prosecutor of the Justice Department sa Quezon City na “makita ang liwanag” at ibasura na ang kaso laban sa 80-anyos na madre.

“We enjoin our fellow church people to stand up with Sr. Elen and the RMP as we face this ordeal. We ask for prayers of support and words of encouragement in this time of trial and tribulation,” sabi pa ng grupo.
