5 ginto bubuhatin ng weightlifting – Puentevella

Umaasa ang Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) na makasungkit ng apat hanggang limang gintong medalya sa pagsasagawa ng isa sa Olympic Weightlifting Qualifying sa itataguyod ng bansa na 30th Southeast Asian Games 2019 sa Nobyembre 30-Disyembre 11.

Ipinaalam ni SWP President Monico ‘Nyoks’ Puentevella na bubuo sa 10-katao national weightlifting team sina Hidilyn Diaz (55kgs.), Mary Flor Diaz (45kgs.), Elien Rose Perez (49kgs.), Margaret Colonia (59kgs.), Elreen Ann Ando (64kgs.), Kristel Macrohon (71kgs.), John Fabuar Ceniza (55kgs.), Dave Llyod Pacaldo (61kgs.), Nestor Colonia (67kgs.) at Jeffrey Garcia (73kgs.), na may mga kakayanang makasorpresa sa kada dalawang taong torneo.

“For the SEA Games, we’re aiming for four to five gold medals. I am hoping that we will get at least one or two medals for men, and four medals for women,” ani Puentevella.

Aniya, ang SEA Games ay parte sa long-term plan ng asosasyon na makapagpadala ng mas maramiing Pilipinong lifters sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics at sa 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“My master plan from the beginning was, like what I did to Hidilyn, let them join all these competitions, in between SEAG and Tokyo Olympics. After siguro ng Tokyo, mas madami na (Pilipino Olympic qualifiers),” aniya.

Optimistiko din si Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman at Team Pilipinas chef de mission William “Butch” Ramirez sa pag-asang makapagwagi ng mga gintong medalya ang hoisters na isa sa mga inaasahang makakasilat sa SEAG.

“The PSC has done its part in giving the athletes the opportunity to train and gave them exposure,” bulalas ni Ramirez. “The National Sports Associations (NSAs) have made their assessments on their chances and we are counting on them.”
