Nakaligtas sa tangkang lethal injection ang death row inmate na si Christa Pike sa Tennessee nitong Miyerkoles, Setyembre 30.
Si Pike, 50 anyos, ay nahatulan ng kamatayan dahil sa pagpaslang sa kanyang 19-anyos na schoolmate na si Colleen Slemmer noong 1995. 18 anyos si Pike nang mangyari ang krimen.
Ayon sa kanyang mga abogado, dalawang syringe ng lethal injection chemicals ang naibigay kay Pike ngunit nanatili siyang buhay at naririnig pa umanong humihilik.
Isinugod siya sa isang off-site medical facility matapos ang tangkang execution.
“The Tennessee Department of Correction followed every step of the state’s lawful, established execution protocol approved by the Attorney General’s Office,” giit ng Tennessee Department of Correction.
“The lethal injection chemical in the protocol has consistently been effective, and the protocol does not allow for additional procedures beyond what was carried out this evening. Christa Pike has been transported to an off-site medical facility,” dagdag nito.
Ang tangkang execution ay ilang oras matapos i-lift ng US Supreme Court ang 11th-hour lower-court stay sa execution na nagbigay-daan upang ituloy ang lethal injection kay Pike.
