“Like father, like son. The elder Marcos left Malacañang in 1986 in disgrace, leaving behind a foreign debt that ballooned from $600 million in 1965 to $26 billion at the time of his ouster, along with a legacy of kickbacks, cronyism, and plunder,” ani Tinio.
“Four decades later, his son promised to clear the Marcos name. Instead, he presided over the biggest corruption scam since the Martial Law era—the multi-billion peso flood control racket—where he himself stands accused as the biggest fish,” dagdag pa ng mambabatas.
“In the so-called golden age of flood control here in the Philippines—the first three years of the Marcos Jr. administration, 2023 to 2025—a total of P287 billion went to flood control alone,” ani Tinio.
“The painful irony that borrowed money has once again flowed into anomalous projects, as it did under the dictatorship. Under the father, the people inherited billions in foreign debt from overpriced and anomalous projects, from the Nuclear Power Plant to the behest loans of crony corporations. Under the son, we are racking up P1.69 trillion in new borrowings next year alone—much of it poured into flood control projects that collapse, ghost structures, and billions lining the pockets of corrupt contractors and their patrons in government,” dagdag pa ng mambabatas.
“The Filipino people must remain vigilant and guard the taxpayers’ money. The name the Marcos family has been trying to clean is now stained even darker—not by history’s judgment alone, but by the present’s daily plunder. (Bernard Taguinod)
