Hinimok ng Caritas Philippines ang administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na pahintulutan sa bansa ang imbestigasyon ng International Criminal Court (ICC) sa madugong digmaan kontra droga ni dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Ayon sa pahayag ng executive secretary ng Caritas Philippines na si Fr. Antonio Labiao Jr., ang imbestigasyon ng ICC ang magbibigay daan para sa “due process” at upang masigurong mananaig ang hustisya at katotohanan.
Ito ay matapos mapag-desisyunan ng ICC na ipagpapatuloy nito ang imbestigasyon sa bansa may kaugnay sa “crimes against humanity” sa ilalim ng administrasyong Duterte.
Noong 2021, nasuspinde ang imbestigasyon nito dahil sinabi ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas na ginagawa na umano nito ang imbestigasyon at iginiit na wala ng hurisdiksyon ang ICC sa bansa matapos itong kumalas dito.
“The Senate and the House of Representatives should exert pressure and issue a resolution addressed to President Marcos allowing the ICC to resume its investigation,” saad ni Labiao.
“If the government has nothing to hide then it has nothing to fear,” giit pa ng pari.
Hinimok din naman ng presidente ng Bicol Consortium for Development Initiatives (BCDI) na si Fr. Jovic Lobrigo na hayaang magkaroon ng malayang imbestigasyon ang ICC sa digmaan kontra droga sa bansa.
“We urge President Marcos to allow the ICC to conduct its investigation freely and show that the government is sincere in its vow to promote accountability and protect human rights,” saad ng presidente ng BCDI.
Dagdag pa, sinabi ng co-executive secretary ng Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines na si Fr. Christian Buenafe na magkaroon tayo ng makahulugang usapin tungkol sa isyu na ito kaysa siraan ang mga kritiko.
“There should be meaningful discourse and engagement instead of vilifying perceived critics,” ani Buenafe.
“We are calling on all sectors, especially the academic and business sectors, to join the campaign and advocate for a culture of respect for human dignity and protection of human rights for everyone, regardless of their circumstances,” dagdag pa niya.
Matatandaang kinundena rin ng mga samahang Protestante sa bansa ang digmaan kontra droga ni Duterte na pumaslang sa libo-libong tao.
