Maaari lamang ipatupad ang pagtaas sa kontribusyon sa Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) kapag bumaba na inflation o presyo ng mga bilihin at serbisyo sa bansa.
Ito ang sinabi ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri kasabay na papuri sa kautusan ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. na suspendihin ang premium hike ngayong taong ito.
“I laud the President’s move to suspend the premium hikes on PhilHealth members as it would ease up the burden of the general population in these difficult times coming out of the pandemic,” sabi ni Zubiri sa isang statement.
Ang premium hike ay orihinal na itinakda sa ilalim ng Universal Health Care Act, na nagmamandato ng dahang-dahang pagtaas sa kontribusyon sa 3.5 porsiyento ngayong 2023 mula sa dating 2.75 porsiyento noong 2019 at limang porsiyento naman sa 2024.
“This suspension shows that the President knows and acts on the needs of our countrymen by bringing down the daily cost of expenses that everyone is burdened with, especially during this time of high inflation affecting everything from food to fuel,” ani Zubiri.
Matatandaan na nakapagtala ng walong porsiyento sa inflation noong Nobyembre 2022, pinakatamaas sa bansa sapul noong Nobyembre 2008.
“The premium rate hikes may be established after we have brought down our inflation rate at a more comfortable level in the near future. Once again, we thank the President for this as this will allow a larger take home pay for all salaried workers for the meantime,” sabi pa ng pinuno ng Senado. (Dindo Matining)
Matatandaang may bahid ng pandaraya ang pagkapanalo ni Zubiri sa kanyang first term bilang senador. Taong 2011, dineklara ng Senate Electoral Tribunal na mayroong dagdag-bawas sa bilangan ng boto sa 2,658 polling precinct sa Mindanao na noo’y kinuwestiyon ni Aquilino Pimentel III, ang 13th placer sa 2007 senatorial elections.
Nagbitiw sa pwesto si Zubiri matapos lumutang ang matibay na ebidensya ng electoral fraud. August 2011 ay pormal na naupo bilang senador si Pimentel, na napag-alamang abante ng 258,166 boton kay Zubiri.
