Tinanggal ang Pangulo bilang chairperson ng board na mangangasiwa sa panukalang daang bilyong Maharlika Wealth Fund (MWF).

Sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Appropriations ngayong Biyernes, sinabi ni House Senior Deputy Minority Leader at Northern Samar Rep. Paul Daza na ang Pangulo ay nasa ‘no-win’ situation kapag pinamunuan nito ang board ng MWF.

Sinabi ni Daza na mapopolitika lamang ang pondo kung Pangulo ang mamumuno dito.

“My personal opinion is we should layer and shelter the President because it’s a no win situation for the President to chair such a board,” sabi ni Daza.

Ayon kay House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries chairperson at Manila Rep. Irwin Tieng, na dumalo rin sa pagpupulong, mayroong amyenda si Appropriations committee vice chairperson at Marikina Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo sa naturang probisyon.

Sa halip na ang Pangulo, ang tatayong chairperson ay ang kalihim ng Department of Finance.

“With regards to the composition of the 15-man board, instead of the two independent directors, it will be made into four independent directors,” sabi ni Tieng.

Sa huling bahagi ng deliberasyon, sinabi ni Quimbo na binago ang komposisyon ng MWF Council.

Ayon kay Quimbo ang 15-member board ay bubuohin ng Finance secretary (chairperson), chief executive officer ng MWFC, mga pangulo ng Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) at Development Bank of the Philippines, pitong regular member na mula sa mga fund contributors at apat na independent director mula sa pribadong sektor.

Ang amyenda sa MWFC ay tatalakayin ng Banks committee sa Lunes. (Billy Begas)
