Kasong sedisyon kontra Robredo, iba pa pinababasura ng UP

Hinimok ng University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law si Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra na ipabasura ang reklamong sedisyon na inihain kontra sa mga sangkot umano sa “Ang Totoong Narcolist” videos na naglalayong patalsikin si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Inisyu ito ng UP College of Law matapos mapagdesisyunan ng Department of Justice panel of prosecutors nito lamang September ang isinagawang preliminary investigation sa reklamong inihain ng Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).

“The undersigned faculty call upon the Secretary of Justice to dismiss the baseless charges against Professors Te, Salvador and Atty. Hilbay and the IBP (Integrated Bar of the Philippines) and FLAG (Free Legal Assistance Group) lawyers and the members of the opposition, in the interest of truth, fairness and justice,” batay sa salaysay ng UP College of Law.

Sa ilalim ng reklamo, inakusahan ng PNP-CIDG ang 36 respondents dahil umano sa sedition, inciting to sedition, cyber libel, libel, estafa, harboring a criminal, at obstruction of justice.

Kabilang sa respondents sina Vice President Leni Robredo; incumbent Senators Risa Hontiveros at Leila de Lima; dating senador Antonio Trillanes IV; dating Supreme Court spokesman Theodore Te; at mga Otso Diretso candidates na sina Pilo Hilbay, Jose Manuel Diokno, Gary Alejano, Romulo Macalintal, Paolo Benigno Aquino, Lorenzo Tañada III at Samira Gutoc.

Tinawag na harassment ng UP College of Law ang naturang reklamo.

“This disturbing incident does not augur well for democracy. It is meant to silence legitimate criticism and dissent of lawyers and other members of the opposition,” dagdag pa sa salaysay.
